Larry Vandergrift is the Executive Director and Founder of Okanagan Mental Health Services Society. Yard by Yard and Room by Room are part of a therapeutic work program developed by Larry in 2001 with the hope of creating employment opportunities for individuals living with a mental health diagnosis. Being diagnosed with schizophrenia himself in the '80s, Larry recognized a need for a program to help people re-enter the workforce through onsite training. These programs have been successful in assisting many individuals to learn a trade and develop transferable skills for the job market.
Yard by Yard and Room by Room are successful enterprising non-profit businesses that hire certified professionals to supervise and train clients in the lawn and tree care and janitorial industries. These businesses pride themselves on providing quality workmanship at affordable prices. Services include lawn care, arborist services, pruning, weeding, landscaping, irrigation repairs and winterizing, janitorial services, firewood sales and snow removal.
Larry holds a Psychiatric Aid Certificate and has worked as a consultant for the provincial government as well as for regional and local mental health groups. He also has 25 years of experience in lawn care services. Larry has spent many years building a solid reputation in the community. He prides himself on strong relationships and a client-centred approach and ensures that all those in contact with the organization leave with a positive experience.
